Child’s Play Blu-ray announced!

Posted on Friday 29 May 2009

Well, it looks like MGM is finally making an effort to get everybody’s favorite killer doll on our HD movie screens. Today, MGM/UA announced that they will be releasing the original 1988 Child’s Play on Blu-ray disc on September 15th. There’s no word yet if it’s going to be a typical bare-bones MGM release with no special features, or if they’re going to do a high-def version of the Chucky’s 20th Birthday DVD. Here’s hoping they do the latter.

Now that MGM is releasing the original Child’s Play, all we need is for Universal to get off their asses and release the rest of the Child’s Play movies. My Seed of Chucky HD DVD is lonely sitting by itself on my movie shelf. :(

Chuckyholics 2.0

Posted on Monday 6 October 2008

It looks like Chuckyholics.com finally got a face lift! (And it’s a good thing, too) Apologies for not working on it sooner. HonkeyKong decided to work out some bugs and revamp the entire website. (yay no more spammers on the forums!) but it left him without a designer, ’cause I was super busy. But I’m much more focused on internet work and design these days, so I got my ass in gear and I’m not gonna let our Chucky baby look that way any longer!

Anyhow, we’re still working on the forum’s layout. It’s about 50% done. HK added some features back to the forums, such as avatars and our old Chucky emoticons I made back in 05′. Ah, those were the days. I still miss the old forum layout, but I hope you all enjoy the new one, as well as the main site!

In other news, back in August I went to FanExpo in Toronto and met up with Brad Dourif. He told me in his own words that he WILL be voicing Chucky in the remake, as well as playing the live role of Charles Lee Ray. I totally know he can still pull it off. Brad’s awesome like that. So it’s confirmed, and he seemed really pleased about it!

So any thoughts about the new layout? Or about Brad’s Role?

Chuckyholics 1.5 (Not 2.0 yet)

Posted on Saturday 28 June 2008

(Once we have a new pretty theme, THEN I’ll consider this site Chuckyholics 2.0)

I’ve spent today doing MAJOR maintenance on the website, in case you haven’t noticed. :-P

Chuckyholics.com is now running on an entirely new codebase, and after a day of programming on it, all user accounts should be converted to the new system.

What are the perks of this? Well, for one thing, we’re on a much more stable, and faster architecture now. Also, we should be able to keep spammers out easier, allowing legit users to register faster and join the community.

Of course, my favorite feature is that there is NO MORE DUAL REGISTRATION! Regardless of whether you register on the main site or the forums, that account will be able to access both areas. ONE ACCOUNT TO RULE THEM ALL! For those of you who previously had accounts on both areas, your forum account is now the only account you need to access the whole site.

The drawback to doing all these upgrades is that I don’t have a new theme yet, so everything’s pretty much the default for now. Don’t let this drive you away though, we’ll have the new design working soon. I just need to find a good web designer to do it, since I’m a lousy designer. I can handle the programming side as long as I don’t have to make it look pretty.

In the meantime, enjoy the site, and if you have any problems, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible by e-mailing me at HonkeyKong (at) Chuckyholics (dot) com

Child’s Play 20th Anniversary DVD Details

Posted on Sunday 22 June 2008

SpookyDan from Bloody-Disgusting spoke with Don Mancini regarding the upcoming Child’s Play 20th Anniversary DVD recently, and managed to get some pretty juicy details from him. Like SpookyDan, I’m seriously hoping that they release it on Blu-Ray as well. The DVD will hit stores on September 9th, and the special features are listed below:

- Commentary track with creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner.
- A second track with FX guru Kevin Yagher, Catherine Hicks (Kevin’s wife; they met on the film), and now-grown-up Alex Vincent.
- A third track with Mancini and Chucky (Brad Dourif voicing in character).
- The film itself is presented in the long overdue 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen.
- Making-of documentary blending archival footage with new, on-camera interviews with Mancini, Kirschner, Yagher, Hicks, Vincent, Chris Sarandon, John Lafia and Brad Dourif.

I hope you’re all as excited as I am about this news! I can’t wait to hear the commentary track with Chucky! That should make for some serious entertainment.

Child’s Play Remake Confirmed

Posted on Sunday 21 October 2007

Well, as usual, none of our favorite horror films are safe from the Hollywood Remake Machine, and it looks like this time, Hollywood's target is the original Child's Play.

According to an interview on Shock Till You Drop, David Kirschner is still on-board as producer, and he discusses some of his reasons for wanting to remake the movie after 20 years. Personally, I think the original is just fine the way it is, but as long as they can at least keep some things right, a remake could be very entertaining.

For those of you who are concerned (as I was) that Chucky will become another computer-animated abortion, have no fear. David Kirschner has already stated, "It'll be an animatronic doll, like we do all of them, but animatronics have grown from when we did the first one 20 years ago.".

That's a sigh of relief from me. There are some things that can't replace good old-fashioned puppetry, and Chucky is one of them. The animatronics helped make him seem more realistic, as if a walking, talking killer doll could ever be realistic.

Also, he says that he's still uncertain about whether or not Brad Dourif will return to voice Chucky, but this is another issue that I think should not change. Brad Dourif *IS* Chucky, and it just wouldn't be right hearing another voice coming out of that doll's mouth. Stop thinking about it, and just call Brad and ask him to do the damn voice, already! He's stated several times that he loves playing Chucky, so it's not like he's going to say no.

Anyway, please don't shoot the messenger, I'm just reporting this because it's my duty in running a Chucky fan community. As usual, any and all discussion about the franchise or the upcoming remake is welcome in our forum.

Chuckyholics.com is 2 years old today!

Posted on Thursday 15 March 2007

Well, it’s official. Chuckyholics.com is now 2 years old. The community is actually older than that if you count the time before I bought this domain, but since I don’t have a date for when we actually started it, I’ll just go ahead and count the day I purchased the domain and webspace as the birthday.

It seems like it was just yesterday that Coral and I started this site, but I guess time flies when you’re doing something you enjoy. Two years later, the site is just as popular, if not more so, than it was back in 2004/2005. Unfortunately, some parts of the site are still under contstruction/outdated, so I guess that goes to show that time can’t make me any less lazy.

I could go on and on about some of the good times and great discussions that have happened here, but that would be pointless considering that I’m speaking to the people who made it possible. This would never be a Chucky fan community without the fans, and if it weren’t for you people, we wouldn’t have a website to run. So, I’d like to take this time to thank all of you for visiting, whether it’s once a week, once a month, or several times daily. You are the ones that have made Chuckyholics the great fan community that it is today, and I am glad that I’ve been able to meet so many wonderful fans of the series, and knowing that I’m not alone in my rabid fanaticism.
