Well, as usual, none of our favorite horror films are safe from the Hollywood Remake Machine, and it looks like this time, Hollywood's target is the original Child's Play.
According to an interview on Shock Till You Drop, David Kirschner is still on-board as producer, and he discusses some of his reasons for wanting to remake the movie after 20 years. Personally, I think the original is just fine the way it is, but as long as they can at least keep some things right, a remake could be very entertaining.
For those of you who are concerned (as I was) that Chucky will become another computer-animated abortion, have no fear. David Kirschner has already stated, "It'll be an animatronic doll, like we do all of them, but animatronics have grown from when we did the first one 20 years ago.".
That's a sigh of relief from me. There are some things that can't replace good old-fashioned puppetry, and Chucky is one of them. The animatronics helped make him seem more realistic, as if a walking, talking killer doll could ever be realistic.
Also, he says that he's still uncertain about whether or not Brad Dourif will return to voice Chucky, but this is another issue that I think should not change. Brad Dourif *IS* Chucky, and it just wouldn't be right hearing another voice coming out of that doll's mouth. Stop thinking about it, and just call Brad and ask him to do the damn voice, already! He's stated several times that he loves playing Chucky, so it's not like he's going to say no.
Anyway, please don't shoot the messenger, I'm just reporting this because it's my duty in running a Chucky fan community. As usual, any and all discussion about the franchise or the upcoming remake is welcome in our forum.
